(Sm.) Bruch, Schimp. & W.Guembel

An autoicous, acrocarpous moss which grows on siliceous rocks and cliffs in the uplands, often under overhangs in shelterd spots. It can form quite dense cushions with long leaves that curl inwards when dry. It has a distinct western distribution in southern Britain where it is more or less confined to Wales and the southwest of England and it is scattered throughout the highlands of Scotland. It is occasional and locally frequent in West Glamorgan and absent from Gower. Sporophyte capsules are common.
