Campylopus pyriformis Dwarf Swan-neck Moss

(Schultz) Brid.

A common, dioicous acrocarpous moss which grows in lots of different acidic habitats including heathland and moorland, woodland, peaty banks and tracksides, on tussocks in marshy grassland and on decaying logs. It grows in patches which are often covered with deciduous leaves and shoot tips. Sporophyte capsules are usually abundant in spring and summer. It can be confused with Campylopus flexuosus which grows in similar places, but it doesn't have as wide a nerve as that species, nor does it have stems matted with rhizoids and its leaves are broader. It is scattered and relatively common throughout West Glamorgan.
