Calypogeia muelleriana Mueller's Pouchwort

(Schiffn.) Muell.Frib.

It is a less common leafy liverwort than Calypogeia fissa in Britain overall, but it occurs in similar habitats. However, it is more frequent than either of those in wet Purple Moor-grass (Molinia caerulea) grassland and Sphagnum-dominated habitats and it is much more frequent on decorticated logs in conifer plantations than Calypogeia fissa. It is scattered throughout West Glamorgan in acidic areas, particularly on the Gower Commons and in the South Wales Coalfield of Neath Port Talbot. It is encountered frquently on rotting logs of Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis) in plantations. It is autoicous and sporophyte capsules are produced occasionally.
