Bryum klinggraeffii Raspberry Bryum

Schimp.

A dioicous, acrocarpous moss with a predominantly eastern distribution in Britain. It tends to grow on calcareous substrates, particularly where there is seasonal flooding. Accurate identification requires microscopic examination of the the small tubers that occur on the rhizoids. The Atlas of British and Irish Bryophytes describes it as the most regular species of tuberous Bryum on river banks in south Wales. There are few records of it in West Glamorgan but it is almost certainly overlooked.
