A small, attractive cherry tree with dark brown bark which is pitted with white lenticels. It is a native of the Balkans but planted widely in Britain in parks, gardens and as a street tree. It is one of the first flowering cherries to bloom along urban roads and in parks in early spring, with masses of small, white, usually solitary flowers. The red or yellowish fruit is rounded with one stone and has sweet flesh at maturity. It is widely planted in urban areas of West Glamorgan.
