Iris spuria Blue Iris

Gellesg Glas

Linnaeus

A very attractive, short stemmed, rhizomatous perennial which is commonly grown in gardens. Although it is often blue flowered, other colour forms, such as white and yellow, are common. It is a native of Europe and western Asia where it is usually found in wet places. There are some naturalised populations in Britain and it occurs widely as a relic of cultivation. It may persist for several years in suitable places e.g. in wet ditches. There is one record from West Glamorgan.
