Dryopteris dilatata Broad Buckler-fern

Marchredynen Eang

(Hoffm.) A. Gray

A very common, robust fern of woodland and hedgerows throughout Britain. It is very shade tolerant and is one of the few vascular plants that grow in large populations in Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis) forests. The fronds are broadly triangular and arise from the rhizome on scaly stalks in a chacacteristic shuttlecock form. The scales have a prominent dark stripe. It is widespread and abundant in West Glamorgan.
