Crepis paludosa Marsh Hawk's-beard

Gwalchlys y Gors

(Linnaeus) Moench

A large, leafy, perennial hawk's-beard which is more or less hairless. The leaves are usually quite shiny, conspicuously toothed and stalkless. It is a northern, upland species which grows along rocky, shaded riversides especially where there is regular splashing and where there are waterfalls. The only reliable records in West Glamorgan are from the upper Vale of Neath in the Pyrddin and Nedd Fechan valleys and along the River Neath between Glyn Neath and Resolven where it occurs at its southern limit in the British flora. Lowland records outside Neath Port Talbot are almost certainly misidentifications.
