Chenopodium rubrum Red Goosefoot

A glabrous, thick-leaved goosefoot which is not mealy, variable in size but often quite robust. Plants are often reddish in colour, with leaves that are somewhat diamond shaped, usually shiny green and deeply toothed. It is a weed of disturbed or cultivated ground, farmyards, manure heaps and open habitats near the sea such as sand dunes. It is widespread in southern Britain but less common in Wales where it has a rather coastal distribution. There are scattered, mostly coastal records in West Glamorgan.

This species has been re-named Oxybasis rubra.
