A common sedge of acidic, neutral or mildly base-rich grassland along woodland rides in damp grassy heathland, dune slacks and in various other grassy habitats. It is very distinctive after flowering when it produces its characteristic oval fruits but it can be quite confusing in the early part of the flowering stage. It is very common in grasslands and verges throughout West Glamorgan.
