Carex laevigata Smooth-stalked Sedge

Hesg Llyfn

Smith

A sedge of wodland edge, shady banks, hedgerows and other shady places. It is widespread throughout most of Wales and it is frequent in West Glamorgan, particularly in the valleys of Neath Port Talbot where it is often encountered in moist, shaded areas along forest roads. It is a tall, often robust sedge which can be confused with Green-ribbed Sedge (Carex binervis) and Distant Sedge (Carex distans) but it tends to grow in different habitats to those species and it is hardly ever encountered with them.
