Linnaeus
Scarlet Pimpernel, is a common, native, annual species of arable fields, waste places and bare areas on cliffs. It is found in all of these habitats in West Glamorgan and sometimes occurs in huge amounts in suitable areas. The flowers are usually bright red but pink, white and, more rarely, blue forms also occur. In some years it forms large red carpets of flowers in bare areas on the limestone cliffs of south Gower. It is an unmistakable species.
Note that the 4th edition of Stace's New Flora of the British Isles refers to this species as Lysimachia arvensis (L.).
