Adiantum capillus-veneris Maidenhair Fern

An attractive fern that grows on calcareous rocks and mortor. It is usually found growing vertically on rocks or walls with its distinctive fan-shaped leaf segments hanging down. It is predominenty a Mediterranean species and is uncommon as a truly native species in Britain. Native populations do occur on the coastal limestone cliffs of mid Glamorgan but it is only found planted on walls or as a garden escape in West Glamorgan.
