Caucasian Fir (or Nordmann Fir) is a handsome tree native to the western Caucasus and Pontic Mountains where the type specimen was collected in Georgia by Alexnder Nordmann in 1836. It is an important timber tree throughout its native range but not in Britain. However, in recent years it has become popular as a Christmas tree, along with some other Abies species, and it is gradually replacing Norway Spruce as the 'real tree' of choice at Christmas time. It is occasionally planted in parks and other amenity areas but it is rarely seen with cones and does not regenerate as a neophyte.
