(Davies) Vezda
The thallus of Acarospora simplex is obscure and difficult to detect, the most conspicuous feature in the field being the grouped, black apothecia, which appear distorted (gyrous). The species is found on rough, acidic to weakly calcareous rocks of the xeric supralittoral zone. Recorded from a few coastal locations in West Glamorgan, most recently on sandstone sea defences of the sea wall at Dalton's Point, Penclawdd.
Listed under Polysporina simplex by Alan Orange in Flora of Glamorgan (Wade et al, 1994).
