Volvariella surrecta Piggy-back Rosegill

(Knapp) Singer

An uncommon species which grows on the fruiting bodies of Clouded Funnel (Clitocybe nebularis) and occasionally some Tricholoma species, usually causing significant deformity in the host species. It was first found in West Glamorgan growing on Clouded Funnel in Swansea University's botanic gardens  by Teifion Davies in 2024. The pale coloured, fleecy, domed cap, the large volva at the base of the stem and its habit of growing on Clouded Funnel make it almost unmistakable. The gills which at first are whitish in colour become pink in mature specimens.
