Morchella elata Black Morel

Morel Du

Fr.

Similar to Common Morel (Morchella esculenta) but with dark, blackish or charred-looking fruiting bodies. It grows on woodchip mulch and is becoming increasingly common in this habitat in Britain, particularly in south Wales. At present there are few records from West Glamorgan but it might be expected to occur more frequently in places where wood mulch is used.
