Crepidotus cesatii Roundspored Oysterling

(Rabenh.) Sacc.

The most common oysterling in West Glamorgan, occuring on twigs of willows and other woody species. It is very similar to Variable Oysterling (Crepidotus variabilis) and often confused with it. The only way to safely distinguish between them is to examine the spores microscopically. Roundspored Oysterling, as the name suggests, has spherical spores, 7-8 microns in diameter, which are minutely spiny (see photo). The spores of Variable Oysterling are cylindrical in shape.
