Amanita porphyria Grey Veiled Amanita

An uncommon species with a grey-brown cap usually with purple or violet tints which are sometimes rather faint. The stem is bulbous and has a flared, skirt-like ring. It occurs in broadleaved and coniferous woodland but is has rarely been recorded in West Glamorgan, with just one record from a Sitka Spruce coupe in the Vale of Neath.
