Tritomaria quinquedentata Lyon's Notchwort

(Huds.) H.Buch

A fairly large dioicous leafy liverwort which grows in sheltered, humid sites among other bryophytes on upland slopes in Atlantic woodlands, base-rich rock faces, crags, river banks and decaying logs. The distinctive leaves long, curved back edges which push them forwards and make their 3 pointed leaf lobes very prominent. It is an Arctic-montane species which has a distinct western and northern distribution in Britain. Although widespread in Wales it is not common in the south and it is scarce in West Galmorgan. Sporophytes are occasional.
