Hedw.
A slender, autoicous, pleurocarpous moss which grows along rivers in places where at least some silt has accumulated, such as tree roots and branches, riverside rocks and boulders. It also grows in other places that are occasionally flooded such as the edges of reservoirs and pools and also in mineral-rich soakways and flushes. It is widespread in Britain except for much of Scotland where it is scarce or absent. It is largely a lowland moss and it is locally frequent along river systems in West Glamorgan. It is particularly frequent along the River Neath. Sporophyte capsules are common and usually abundant.
