Bryum dichotomum Bicoloured Bryum

Hedw.

A common, dioicous Bryum throughout lowland Britain. It is a species of nutrient-rich ruderal habitats, arable fields, gardens, tarmac and walls. Sporophyte capsules are common, particularly late in the year. It produces axillary bulbils which are quite conspicuous on close inspection. It can be confused with Bryum gemmiferum, which is less common but it produces smaller bulbils and many more of them. It is a commmon species in lowland areas of West Glamorgan.
