(P.Gaertn., B.Mey. & Scherb.) Schimp.
A distinctive, acrocarpus moss of the west and north of Britain. It grows on rocks, silt or gravel by lakes or along streams and rivers in the uplands or on wet, montane cliff faces. It is dioicous and rarely produces capsules. It is very rare in West Glamorgan, confined to wet boulders in the Nedd Fecahn and Pyrddin valleys.
