Gymnocarpium dryopteris Oak Fern

Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Oak-fern, is a relatively small, attractive perennial fern with broadly triangular fronds that are a rich green colour. It is has a local distribution in Wales, northern England and Scotland, preferring acidic, rocky areas in the uplands in moist, shady locations. It is rare in West Glamorgan where it occurs on the north-facing scarp of Craig y Llyn and in the vicinty of Scwd Einion Gam in the Pyrddin Valley.
