(L.) Crantz.
Marsh Helleborine is an orchid of base-rich wetland habitats such as dune slacks, marshy fields and fens. In West Glamorgan it is locally common in some coastal dune slacks, e.g. Whiteford Dunes and Oxwich Dunes, but it also occurs in some inland locations, e.g. Crynlyn Fen and marshy fields and fenland on and near Gorsllwyn. Large populations occur in fenland and wet sandy areas in the vicinity of Morfa Tip and on Baglan Dunes. Nevertheless, there has a been a significant decline in this species in the last 50 years mainly as a result of habitat loss and lack of management. It no longer occurs on Crymlyn Burrows where it was common in dune slacks and other marshy places in the 1970s.
