(Link) Schult.
A rhizomatous, perennial spike-rush which is superficially similar to Common Spike-rush (Eleocharis palustris) but more slender and with one lower glume which wraps around the stem at the base of the spikelet (see photo). It grows in wet, base-rich habitats such as duneslacks and calcareous flushes. Its distribution in Britain is largely coastal and lowland but it sometimes grows in base-rich flushes in upland marshy grasslands in Wales and in northern Britain. It is largely associated with coastal dune slacks in West Glamorgan but also occurs inland in a few suitable base-rich marshes and wet meadows.
