Dryopteris carthusiana Narrow Buckler-Fern

Marchredyn Cul

(Vill.) H.P.Fuchs

A rather slender Buckler-fern that grows in fens, marshes and marshy grassland. It has the appearance of a narrow, light green form of Broad Buckler-fern (Dryopteris dilatata), but it grows in loose groups that do not have a shuttlecock form and the fronds tend to point upwards with pinnules that have distinct, spinulose teeth. It also has a relatively long stalk (rachis) with scales that are not striped. Narrow Bucler-fern is well distributed in West Glamorgan and can be found in significant amounts in Pant y saes Fen.
