(Newman) Newman ex Oberh. & Tavel
A fairly distinctive member of the Scaly Male-fern complex (Dryopteris affinis agg.). It is usually not as robust as Scaly Male-fern (Dryopteris affinis) and it is has a more oblong shape and is somewhat leathery in texture. One of its most distinctive features is the truncated, squared-off apex to the pinnae which are also toothed. Although it is found in shady places, it is often found in open, rocky places such as scree. It usually dies back in early winter. It is widespread in West Glamorgan.
