A robust hybrid between Common Spotted-orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii) and Southern Marsh-orchid (Dactylorhiza praetermissa) which is frequently found in the absence of its parents. Plants are often much taller than the parent species, invariably with spotted or blotched leaves and pale purple or mauve-pink flowers which have a broader lip than Common Spotted-orchid. However, populations often show some degree of introgression between the hybrid and parents and then exhibit variation in the exact form and colour of the flower. It is the most common marsh-orchid hybrid in the county and it is encountered frequently in verges along forest roads in the conifer plantations of Neath Port Talbot.
