L.
A large sedge of marshy areas and base-rich flushes near the coast and also inland where it is often planted on the margins of ponds and in ditches. It differs from Cyperus eragrostis in its long rhizomes and diffuse inflorescences with reddish-brown spiklets that have 3 stamens. It is widely distributed in much of southern Britain but it is uncommon as a native species in Wales. There a few records in West Glamorgan where it is possibly native in Gower but probably planted elsewhere.
