Conyza sumatrensis Guernsey Fleabane

Amrhydlwyd Guernsey

(Retz.) E.Walker

A South American species that was first recorded in Britain in 1961. It is very similar to Conyza bonariensis and easily confused with it (see description of that species). The pyramid shaped inflorescence and the yellowish pappus are key charcters along with the usually densely-hairy, grey-green phyllaries. Unlike Conyza bonariensis the tips of the phyllaries are not conspicuously red-tipped but they may be minutely red-tipped. It is not as common as Conyza floribunda in West Glamorgan but it occurs in similar places and may be under recorded.
