Conopodium majus Pignut

Bwyd y Moch

(Gouan) Loret

A slender, perennial, white-flowered umbellifer with finely dissected leaves, which grows in woodland, hedgerows, roadside verges and fields, including hay meadows. The stems arise from a rounded, bulb-like tuber which is edible and which the name Pignut, alludes to. It often occurs in ancient hedgerows and riparian woodlands but it avoids very wet conditions. It is a very common and widespread plant in Britain and Ireland and it is frequent in suitable habiats throughout West Glamorgan.
