Cirsium palustre Marsh Thistle

A common thistle of wet or marshy habitats, particularly the peaty, acidic moorlands in the uplands, marshy grasslands and wet verges. Flowers heads occur in clusters and are usually dark purple, but white flowered individuals are not uncommon. It is an important nectar resource for lots of pollinators including species such as the Dark Green Fritillary butterfly (Speyeria aglaja).
