(Siebold & Zucc.) Endl.
Native to Japan where it is a valued timber tree. It was introduced to Britain in 1861 where it has been planted occasionally in parks and estates, e.g. Singelton Park, Swansea, but is rarely recorded in West Glamorgan. Cultivars of Hinoki Cypress grown here were probably derived from C. obtusa var. obtusa. It is not planted for timber in South Wales.
