Ceratophyllum submersum Soft Hornwort

Cyrnddail Meddal

Linnaeus

Similar to Ceratophyllum demersum but the forked leaves are divided 3 or 4 times. It is also much more scarce in Britain and rather rare in Wales. It is found in similar habitats but may also grow in slightly saline ditches and reens and it may be more tolerant of shade. It is particularly frequent in  grazing marshes. It is rare and very local in West Glamorgan, with records only from Oxwich marsh and the Neath Canal, but it may be under recorded in habitats such as Margam Moor and Neath grazing marsh which appear to be very suitable.
