Centaurium pulchellum Lesser Centaury

An small, attractive annual centaury with pink flowers. Plants up to 20cm tall but often much smaller and frequently found in large groups. It a species of damp grassland and open places, particularly near the sea, such as dune slacks and slightly saline sites at the edge of the upper salt marsh. It is locally common in West Glamorgan wiith a largely coastal distribution, but is occasionally found inland along roads that are treated with salt in winter.
