Carex riparia Greater Pond-sedge

Hesgen Braff-Dywysennog

Curtis

A robust sedge which form dense stands along slow-flowing water courses and also in fens, swamps and marshes. The clusters of large male and female spikes with dark brown or purple-black glumes give it a distinctive appearance. It is locally common in lowland West Glamorgan with large populations in the fens and along the canals. Upland populations occur in swampy vegetation in and around Gors-llwyn.
