Carex echinata Star Sedge

Hesgen Bigog Leiaf

Murray

A common sedge of mires, wet peaty ditches and wet heathy habitats that are permanently waterlogged, where its presence indicates quite acidic condition (pH 4.5-5.7). The starry-looking spikes give it a distinctive appearance and it is rarely confused with other sedges in wetland habitats.  It is widespread in West Glamorgan.
