Carex disticha Brown Sedge

Hesg Llygliw

Hudson

A sedge of periodically flooded habitats, dune slacks and fens. Although it is reasonably tall it can be overlooked easily when it is not in flower. It has a scattered distribution in West Glamorgan where it has been lost from many sites as a result of development. It was once a characteristic feature of Baglan Moors but one of the last remaining and very large populations of it was completely destroyed in 2023. A notable population occurs in a wet roadside verge habitat in Cwmafan.
