Capsella bursa-pastoris Shepherd's-purse

Chwilotwr Llogell

(Linnaeus) Medikus

Capsella bursa-pastoris, Shepherd's-purse, is a common and familiar weed of pavements, gardens, arable fields and waste places in general. The common name refers to the small, triangular, purse-like seed pods, similar in shape to the pouches carried by herdsmen. It is widespread and common in the lowlands and urban areas of West Glamorgan, but relatively scarce in the uplands. It is quite abundant in the seabird colonies on the cliffs of Worm's Head.
