Calamagrostis canescens, Purple Small-reed, is a medium-tall, tufted, rhizomatous perennial grass which grows in very marshy habitats such as fens and wet alder/willow carr. It has an eastern distribution in Britain and is very rare in Wales. It is extremely rare in West Glamorgan where it was recorded by Andrew Lees in wet woodland in Crymlyn Fen in 1979, but has not been seen there in recent years.
