Buxus sempervirens Box

Bocys

L.

Buxus sempervirens, Box, is an evergreen (semper virens means always green) shrub or small tree which has often been used in hedge construction and sometimes planted in woodland and shrubberies. It may be native on the chalk downs and elsewhere in southern England where some places like Box Hill and Boxley have been named for their (ancient) associations with it, but it has been introduced all over Britain. It is widely planted in West Glamorgan where there are scattered records.
