Brachypodium pinnatum Tor-grass

Breichwellt y Calch

(L.) P. Beauv.

Brachypodium pinnatum, Tor-grass, is a rhizomatous perennial that forms dense stands which, once established, are very difficult to eradicate. It can become a serious weed. It has a pronounced south-eastern distribution in Britain and where it occurs in Neath Port Talbot it is at the extreme western edge of its distribution in Glamorgan. It is usually a species of calcareous grassland but it is absent from Gower. However, it may be expanding its native range in Britain and there is some evidence that it also occurs as an alien in some of its newer locations. Its status in West Glamorgan is not fully understood.
