Borago officinalis Borage

Bara Gwenyn

L.

Borago officinalis, Borage, is a bristly hairy annual that is native to southern Europe. The blue flowers, which have a prominent central column of dark coloured stamens, are very attractive to bees and the crushed stems have a cucumber like smell and taste. It is almost always a garden escape or is included in pictorial seed mixes sown along roadside verges, but rarely persists. It has a scattered, casual distribution in West Glamorgan.
