Asplenium obovatum, Laceolate Spleenwort, is an uncommon fern of coastal cliffs and other rocky habitats in Britain, but doesn't occur far inland. It has fronds with a relatively narrow, lanceolate outline with spore producing structures on the lower surface (sori) that are relatively short in length. Although it is quite distinctive it could be confused with Black Spleenwort (Asplenium adiantum-nigrum) which has more traingular fronds and sori that are longer in outline. It is rare in West Galmorgan with coastal populations on the south Gower coast and one inland population near Cymmer in the Afan valley.
