Anisantha sterilis (Bromus sterilis), Barren Brome, is a common annual grass of open ground, ruderal sites, disturbed grasslands and waste places. It has a rather untidy, floppy form with long stalked inflorescence branches that droop. It is often suffused with a purple colour. The conspicuously awned spikelets are about 5cm long and borne on stalks which are much longer. It is a common grass, widely distributed in West Glamorgan.
