(Linnaeus) Rich.
A locally frequent orchid in some parts of Britain, growing in calcareous grassland and dunes. It is a relatively common orchid in West Glamorgan and often appears in large populations in the fixed grasslands of coastal sand dunes, such as Nicholston Burrows and Baglan Dunes. It also appears frequently in roadside verge grasslands and occasionally in grassy verges along forest roads that have been dressed with calcareous gravel. Overall, it may be extending its distribution in the county. Most plants have a bright pink-purple inflorescence but paler flowered forms are not uncommon.
