L.
Agrostemma githago, Corncockle, is an attractive, annual archaeophyte in the British Flora and was once a common weed of arable fields. It is now rarely seen in cultivated fields but is sometimes grown in gardens and sown in wild-flower seed mixtures. Its occurrence in West Glamorgan is sporadic and it rarely persists naturally. It is unlikely if many (or any) Corncockle plants that have been recorded here in recent decades have an archaeophyte ancestry and, therefore, it should probably be classified as a neophyte alien.
Archaeophyte status uncertain, probably neophyte introduced as seed in wildflower mixtures.
