Melanohalea elegantula Elegant Camouflage Lichen

(Zahlbr.) O. Blanco et al.

A foliose lichen found on nutrient-rich bark. The adpressed brownish-green thallus hash small overlapping lobes, which can be obscured. The thallus has an abundant fuzzy growth of isidia, which are solid, coralloid and branched. The lower surface is pale brown with scattered unbranched rhizines. Apothecia are rare and all chemical results are negative. The species appears to be scarce in the recording area.

Not listed by Alan Orange in Flora of Glamorgan (Wade et al, 1994).
