Lecanora sulphurea

(Hoffm.) Ach.

A species of exposed nutrient-rich siliceous rocks, both near the coast and inland. Most records within the recording area are on quartz-rich Upper Old Red Sandstone conglermerate outcrops and boulders found in west and central Gower. More recording effort is required to determine how widespread the species is locally. The sulphurous coloured thallus is thick, warted and cracked, with a greenish-black prothallus. The immersed pale, irregular apothecia become blackish. K- or K+ dirty-yellow & KC+ yellow.

Listed under Lecidea sulphurea by Alan Orange in Flora of Glamorgan (Wade et al, 1994).
